it's antique!
haha ok maybe not, but look what I found in my closet! 26 years is almost antique right? Alright, well at the very least it’s vintage. hehe

This was my dress for my 5th birthday! Can’t believe its still alive and well! I remember this being my favorite dress because it could twirl.
Pretty soon, this will be the perfect size for “E”. Can’t wait to have her try it on!
Hopefully it doesn’t fall apart because you can feel that the fabric isn’t as soft anymore, I’m scared to wash it!
this old chair
i love this chair! last weekend, Toots kept Enzo so I could get out of the house without kids. It was a nice break. I went to my favorite antique store and found this really cool chair at one of my favorite vendors.

Since we’re adding a new family member and we currently only have 4 chairs, I wanted to use it as Enzo’s chair for the table in the kitchen, but it’s a tad taller than what I needed. I haven’t decided if I’ll still have him use it (he fits but there’s no growing room between the table and his legs). I’ll still use it for the kitchen then just find a different chair for the table.
But either way, I love this chair! Its old and grungy but it’s perfect!
Thrifting on a rainy day
It’s been so long since I’ve gotten a chance to go thrifting or antiquing. So today after Enzo’s speech therapy, with Enzo and Ethan in tow, we went to a thrift store and our favorite antique store. We didn’t find anything good, but it was nice to get out of our regular routine!
Ethan loves antiquing so I didn’t even have to worry about him. Enzo was really good too! I forgot my sling at home (which he is starting to get heavy in, esp after lunch) and his stroller is too big for the tiny tiny aisles at the antique store. I had his tiny hand in mine and I asked him to stick the other in his pocket, and off we went! We didn’t stay long at the antique store, mainly because they just didn’t have much that caught my eye, and because I didn’t want to wait for Enzo to get bored!
I think it helped that I bribed him with Nemo gummies!
Wednesday Finds #3 on a Friday?
It’s been forever since I’ve gotten a chance to post anything about our finds. We haven’t really been thrifting on Wednesday’s as I originally wanted. But our schedule has been WAY crazy that even I don’t want to leave my house on Wednesdays.
Since soccer season officially started a couple of weeks ago for Ethan, and Enzo in speech therapy, there’s not too much time left in between driving. Check out our schedule…could be worse, so I’m not complaining.
Tuesday
11:30 – Ethan’s PE
2:30 – Enzo’s speech therapy
3:30 – Ethan’s drum lessons
6:00 – Ethan’s soccer practice
Wednesday
Ethan goes to piano lessons but I don’t have to take him.
Thursday
11:00 – Enzo’s speech therapy
6:00 – Ethan’s soccer practice
Saturday
8:00 – Ethan’s soccer games (what were they thinking scheduling at 8am!??!!?)
Schedule isn’t too bad compared to other ppl, but this is our fixed schedule. So anything life throws in between is added to this…for some reason tho, October is a crazy month. Seems like every week in October we have some kind of additional appt for Enzo. Hearing test, ESE evaluation meeting, WIC (not really required, but part of his adoption subsidy. When God blesses, he pours right? eheh).
So Wednesday hunting for me and Enzo has been pretty much put on hold. HOWEVER, hehehe the past several weeks we’ve been out hunting in between appts and errands. I’ve even got a new antiquing buddy! Ethan! He loves this one antique store because its soo huge but you don’t realize it until you find the little ‘secret’ passage ways. Not really secret, but took me 2 visits before I realized it was even there.
Ethan’s always been…hmm…not your typical kid. He loves looking at the old stuff and has even started his own mini collection. He likes the little stuff…and he’s good at finding a good bargain. Like this week, we’ve been out 2 days. I gave him $3 (yes I know it’s not much, but he’s spoiled everywhere else) and he bought himself several items! He got this antique cargo train, a cigar box (not sure why, but that’s his second…he likes to put little stuff in it), a couple of old locks, super old horn (trumpet i think?) and this little book with a slot for a picture on the front. All under $4 coz of tax and stuff (so he went over just a tiny bit his $3 budget, but like I said, he’s spoiled everywhere else).
Oh and he loves estate sales! He thinks its the coolest thing to walk around someone’s house and everything in it be up for grabs. He loves old houses and wants us to buy an old house in this little historic district in Jacksonville. He was so disappointed when we didn’t make it to this one retirement home that was holding a garage sale. He figured old ppl meant old things. Good logic, but he was so disappointed we couldn’t make it. But then a trip to his new favorite antique store fixed it. And NO my son is not turning gay. He just hangs with mommy too much
So what if he wants to learn how to sew and insists on taking a sewing class with his cousin….heheh don’t ask, that’s another blog for another day…God has definitely blessed me with 2 of the cutest and funniest boys….
And in the middle of this crazy schedule and antiquing Ethan and I have been doing, Enzo is right there with us! He’s perfectly content in the sling. So I just stick him in my sling, and off we go…I think he’s starting to get too heavy for my sling tho…
Oh yeah, last week God shut some doors. But we’re definitely ok with it. PEACE. With shut doors, come open windows….so with that said. Pray once again. Can’t wait to see what God has in store for us…
So much more to tell but I’m so so tired. I need sleep, we have a soccer game in the morning. So till next time…
Wednesday Finds #2
So this past Wednesday was the second of (hopefully) our many adventures of treasure hunting. Enzo and I got off to a late start, but I really wanted to go to at least a couple of thrift stores, even if it was just to get outta the house.
Anyway, we get to our first (which was also our only stop) and of course we’re walking around. You never realize how many cool stuff they really do have the thrift stores until you are actually looking! So the electricity shuts off in the back part of this huge store just as I was approching the kitchen items. I thought I saw a really nice piece of china, but I wasn’t sure because the lights turned off and I really couldn’t see anything. So then they make an announce for all customers to move to the front of the store until they can get lights back on blah blah blah. So of course in my mind I’m thinking “NO! Wait I wanna seeeeeee…” (That’s the stubborn and strong willed side of me talking!)
I was like a toddler! I was told not to go back there, but of course now I’m intrigued because I thought I saw something shiny and to top it off, someone said not to be back there. Thank goodness the lights came back on within a few minutes, coz I thought I was gonna have to pull an Enzo (my toddler).
Well when I got back there, down on the bottom shelf….they had a pretty large set of an older Noritake china with the Savannah pattern. Very pretty and girly (far from my usual!). It was for a setting of 8…dinner plates, bread plate, saucer, cups, and a sugar bowl with lid. The plates were a $1 and the other pieces were $0.50.
They also had these really cute, kinda retro plates by homer laughlin. It has these blue looking stars on them….on the internet it says they are cereal bowls, but they are far from looking like it. They look more like pasta bowls? I’ll have to take a pix but they were cute and it was 5 bowls for $1, although one of them was all chipped on the sides. But I still ended up with 4. Definitely cute for anytime use. Not too pretty and heavy!
I usually wouldn’t go outta my way to buy a nice set of china. But I spent under $25 for all of it including the retro ones. Was that a bad price?? I really dunno coz I’ve never bought china. I hope I didn’t overpay tho! So if anyone knows, let me know if I did ok….but that’s why I only ended up in one place. I’ve said I’d like to stay within $10-20 a week. Preferrable $10 and under but you know how that is…hehe.
I’m so excited tho, they really are pretty plates. I hate having plates that are too ‘pretty’ for everyday use….but that’s another post for another day….till then.
Flea Market
We went to the flea market today…we’ve never been to this one since its a little further away….nothing too exciting over there…but i think it may have been because it was a late sunday afternoon.
although there was this one vendor who had TONS of antique stuff. It was everywhere…he had 5-6 garages but things were piled from the floor up! He had some really cool stuff too if you are into that type of antiques. But you also had to be willing to dig through. He did try to have things semi-sorted…he at least had all kitchenwares in one section, tools in another, dishes, etc. He had soooooooooo many vintage Pyrex, Fire King, and Glasbake too!
His prices weren’t too bad but he knew he had really good finds…although i got 4 Paul McCobb Eclipse Creamer in perfect condition for $0.25 a piece…they are cute too! i just wish i would have found other matching pieces from that set. That would have been cute for my everyday plates. I’m sure there’s gotta be some other pieces in there somwhere unless someone bought it already.
I got this chair for my craft table, I’ve been sitting on my floor!
But I’ve been thinking about it. As much as I’ve enjoyed my hunts, I don’t want it to get outta control. (it is so much fun and addicting!) I don’t want my house to be overloaded with junk…just stuff I will actually use and need. So while i’m thrifting and hunting, I should really only dive for the stuff I need!
With that said, I did buy this mushroom tray only because Toots has a mushroom tatoo that is just uhmmm from his younger days. *lol* He doesn’t even know why he chose a mushroom…
Feelin' naked…
Ok. So today was my first time going out without kids and hubby in tow since we’ve brought Enzo home. Toots gave me a break and sent me outta the house pretty much all day…I felt naked not having my huge purse/diaper bag and kids! But you know, it was a really much needed break for me.
I really did enjoy going around to more antique stores today tho. I spent 2 hrs in one of the stores!! Before you laugh, it was a ginormous antique shop…if you’ve ever been to an antique shop, you know that they have stuff in every nook and cranny and the isles are hmm non-exsistent?? but it was so much fun looking at old stuff and trying to figure out what some of the gadgets were.I thought going to an antique store meant prices we’re gonna be like the “Antique Roadshow” and shows like that. Yeah granted they do have some items there that are pricey, for the most part they have stuff in all price ranges. Definitely not what I expected. But cheap or not, if I keep enjoying vintage hunting this much, I’m gonna have to get a job!! hehe ack hope I don’t get bad…
It was cool though because the one shop I went to is like a consigment type shop so different shelves/sections of the store have different vendors. Alot of the vendors were trying to clear their stuff so they had their sections marked 50% off…one of them had EVERYTHING marked down 75%…that one had a bunch of cool stuff too! nothing I’d buy for myself, but if you’re into that type of antiques, 75% off is awesome.
So here’s what I found today. Don’t laugh at my buttons…i know i don’t need them…i don’t even know what i’d use them for. but the colors were too cute and they sat there on the shelf calling me “oh joyce…take us home!”
I want to buy that antique shop!! Then I can spend all day walking around looking at stuff…
Vintage tray
Antique Stores…
I went to a couple of antique stores today…it was SOOO much fun! it’s so neat to see all kinds of stuff. I wanted to buy the whole store! I love the furniture, makes me wanna sell what I have so I can get the old stuff!
You know, I’ve lived in Florida most of my life and this is he first time I’ve ever stopped in that area to check out the stores. I’ve past that area so many times over the past 25 years, and those stores have been there since I can remember. I had the boy with me tho. They were so good today! Ethan was such a big help too. I had Enzo in a sling the whole time so that he won’t get into stuff (a stroller would never make it in the door). Ethan watched my back and sides the whole time and he’d make sure i wasn’t too close to the shelves or Enzo’s feet weren’t swinging at the many many trinkets. I think Ethan actually had fun looking at old stuff.
He saw several books that are from the 1800′s. There was this one building/architect book he saw (1870′s) that he really wanted. (Not sure why, but he’s a nerd like me *lol*) $10 is a lot to a 9 year old boy, so he had such a hard time making a decision since he was dying to get that book but finally decided he didn’t want to spend all his money on 1 book…
Awww geez. Now that I think back at how patient he was today, I should have just coughed up the $10 myself to get him that book…ack but $10!!! I know I know, it’s a 1870′s book so it probably wasn’t such a bad deal….now I feel kinda bad…
I can’t wait to go back tho. Toots said I can go back tomorrow and leave the boys with him. This will be my first trip alone without children (or hubby) with me. It will be a good and VERY much needed break. I haven’t had any time to myself since we brought Enzo home. Ahhh, the joys of motherhood….
I tried taking a picture of this really cute vintage tray I bought, but uhh there’s a reason why I’m not the photographer in this family…so it’ll have to wait.
