Vintage Modern

I found this website called Sproost.com. You do a mini-poll on pictures of different room designs then it gives you your decorating style. It says I’m 100% Vintage Modern. Here’s a few examples they gave for me:

That’s pretty much me. I like things simple, nothing complicated or overly done. Go check out your decorating style, I wanna know! (esp you Ate Jinky!)

Vintage Modern
Flea Market anyone? You know you are drawn to modern furniture and interiors, and yet you really don’t like a space that feels cold and sterile. And who could blame you? And that’s why Vintage Modern is so appealing to you. Though the backdrop of the room, the walls and windows, are many times white or monochromatic, the furniture and accessories have the color, shape and texture to bring the warmth into the space. The great thing about Vintage Modern is ease of mixing different styles in the one space. You can have a new modular sofa mixed with a great pair of chairs that your grandmother purchased in the late 1950′s and the new and old work appear as though they were destined for each other. What’s great is that even if you don’t have time for swap meets and garage sales, so many of the pieces from the mid-century were so great that they have been remade and mimicked year after year.

Think he likes it? Hope he does….Thank you daddy for all the hard work!

ps. In the end we spent almost $60 because Toots bought a small desk, still not bad for a complete makeover right???

Studio Makeover (Before)

So this weekend, we decided to play a little chinese fire drill with the boys rooms once again. It hasn’t been as bad as the last 2 times we tried to rearrange.  For about a week and a half now, Ethan has been camping out on Enzo’s bedroom floor at night.  Enzo likes having Kuya sleep with him.  Ethan hasn’t always liked sleeping with Enzo, hahah…it’s a love hate relationship with these when it comes to sharing a room.  A lot of it is the 7 year age gap I’m sure.  But I think with Enzo getting a little older and being more ‘settled’, they are realizing the perks of sharing a room and have been asking to share rooms again.

Long story short…we decided Ethan would keep his room for his ‘stuff’ and only share a ‘sleeping’ room with Enzo.  So basically it’s Enzo’s room but Ethan sleeps there at night.  This way we prevent any issues or arguments about little brother being in big brother’s things.

Since most of Ethan’s stuff really only consist of his drums and guitar, they decided his room would be a music studio.  We’re actually almost done! And everything was done for under $25!!! Ok so we actually cheated a little, we used what we already had around the house and the only thing purchased was paint and a strip of wood. Now that’s what I call a makeover ;)

It’s looking pretty good and should be finished by tonight.  We want to finish cleaning up and doing all our rearranging before school starts up in a few weeks. I’ll post more picture soon. Till then…

How to build a Raised Garden Box

This is our first attempt on growing Veggies, but first we need to build a Raised Garden Box.

Make sure you pre-drill the wood, otherwise it may split.

Finished Box

What were we thinking??

We spent the day at home and we got bored, so we decided to rearrange Ethan and E’s rooms because they’re both getting new beds.  Well, we finally finished Ethan’s room after pulling hair and teeth.  But his really wasn’t too hard but E’s room is never a quick fix to rearrange.  She just has too many machines and cords everywhere that it really does take planning, a lot of planning.

You’d think that I would have learned my lesson from the last few shuffles we did, but NOOOOOOOOOO so here I am at 9pm…E is hooked up to her machine on the couch in the living room, 2 hrs before the nurse shows up, all medical supplies all over the floor, dresser, shelf and couch (the one that is in her room).

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

I don’t wanna finish…I hate restringing power cords and surge protectors (how many can one room have??) Ok, next time I get a bright idea to rearrange another room in this house, somebody PLEASE stop me!

I’ll post pix later, if I can find my camera.

PS.  We’ll be finalizing E’s adoption soon! *yay* Oh, but E has told a Dr. and a nurse, and myself, that she doesn’t want her name to be “what it currently is”….that’s another post for another day….but really, it’s sad and her reasoning makes sense in a 6 year old’s world.

Chinese Fire Drill

So we’ve decided that in order to keep our sanity (and our hair), we needed to shuffle kids around and give them each their own space and room.  So how do you fit 3 kids in a 3 bedroom house?? Ha!  You play chinese fire drill with the rooms!

Enzo doesn’t do well with transition and changes. Ok I lied, he doesn’t do changes and transitions period. So when we moved him out of his room (the “beach room” as he likes to call it) and into Ethan’s room for them to share, that was more than enough to mess him up and the boy has only slept 2-3 hrs a night since (when we’re lucky!)

We have a a separate dining room that we turned into a play/tv room last year for Ethan and Enzo.  We never used it as a dining room because we have an eat in kitchen.  And as a play/tv room, they never really used it either!  Ethan would sit in there to play on the computer once in a while, but not enough to justify keeping the space as is.

So figured we can turn it into an extra bedroom.  We’ll eventually close it off with a door but for what we need right now, it actually worked out perfect! (God is good right??)

Ethan needed his own space that the 2 little kids really wouldn’t go into.  Enzo just wanted his ‘beach room’ back and E need her room to be more ‘nurse’-friendly and less Enzo-friendly.  Besides, E only plays wherever Enzo is and doesn’t care to be in her room.

So, when we played chinese fire drill, Enzo got his ‘beach room’ back and he slept in it without a fight last night!  Ethan got his pre-teen space back without his little siblings in his business, and the nurse was so thrilled that we moved E to her new room!  She said she wanted to suggest it when she first came, but didn’t want to intrude.

Plus, E’s room is much closer to my room, which really is better for her and us.    No more Enzo around her medical equipment!

Now all I need to do is move our medical supply store to her new room…Yikes! just when I got majority of it organized and labeled!

Date Night at the "Coin Laundry"

We finally decided to just grab all our laundry, stuff it in garbage bags, toss in the back of the Jeep, and head out to the local “Coin Laundry” place.  2 Hours later, Wow, ALL of our laundry is done!!!  Can you believe it?  Don’t get me wrong, we have our own washers, but its small and will take forever.  We used 55lbs loaders (I’m not gonna tell how many we used), but it was awesome!  The “Coin Laundry” place was impressively safe and clean.  And to top it all of, the Detergent, Softener and Dryer Sheets, and more garbage bags were FREE!!!…. another Wow!

It was hypnotizing.  Enzo did really well.  As long as its spinning, he’s content.  Honestly, I like starring at washers too.  Even at home, I find myself starring at the washer as it spins before I close the lid.  But anyhooo, we are done!
